The Propylaeum Club was built in the 1890's, by John Schmidt, a beer baron, whose father had come to Indianapolis from Germany and settled on the near Southside. Then George McCulloch, founder of The Indianapolis Star and president and general manager of the Indiana Transi Co., was the next owner of the Propylaeum. In 1921 the Propylaeum was purchase by the College of Music and Fine Arts. After holding classes here for two years it was then puyrchased by The Propylaeum Club in 1923.Catered by Chef Mike began in January of 2004. Chef Mike Atherton's career started at Michigan State University. He has served as Executive Chef for Hyatt Regency, Adam's Mark Radisson, and Marsh Central Kitchen. He most recently was Food and Beverage Director of the Ashantii Ballroom. Chef Mike was "Chef of the Year in 1997", and has served The American Culinary Federation as President, Vice President, and Chairman of the Board.A deposit will hold your Room.
