Based on the novel of the same name which established the poetic angst of the romantic period, WERTHER brings passion to the forefront in this woe-filled opera by Jules Massenet. From Goethe’s novel comes the tale of the poet Werther and his incomparable love for the woman he cannot have, Charlotte.
This is truly a production of debuts! Not only is this Kentucky Opera’s premiere of WERTHER, but this will also be the company debut for Garrett Sorenson and Elizabth Batton, portraying the ill-fated lovers Werther and Charlotte. Director Kristine McIntyre makes her directorial debut in this grand opera of passion and woe.
